The Border Collie is highly intelligent with an instinctive tendency to work and is very responsive to training. This breed is keen, alert, loyal, and a sensitive companion. As well as being loving family pets they excel at obedience, agility, flyball and herding. They are "People Dogs" and benefit by interacting with the family.
If you are considering a Border Collie please be prepared to exercise your Border Collie twice a day. This is a must to keep your Border Collie fit and happy. They are happiest when they have a job to do.
A Border Collie's naturally strong, in-built herding instinct can quickly turn into a dangerous chasing habit if not curbed. Because they are tempted to round up any moving object this can include traffic - so train your Border Collie to understand that "Traffic Herding" is not allowed. Also, be aware that they will try to herd young children while running and playing which can frustrate the parents and kids. Border Collies like praise and positive training. Please do not yell at them (they take it to heart and you can ruin one).
We are glad you are considering this wonderful and loving breed. You will have endless days of enjoyment from the Border Collie. |
